Handmade Jewelry Trends for 2021

Handmade Jewelry Trends for 2021

As the seasons change, so do the trends. This is especially true this year! After 5 entire seasons of having to worry if your earrings would get caught on your mask and if it was even worth it to put makeup on because who are you going to see anyway?!  We are finally emerging into a world of restaurants, hangouts, and travel!!

Although jewelry trends work on a different schedule than fashion, every change in lifestyle brings something new and exciting and this year is no different. I have compiled this list for those eager to know which handmade jewelry styles to look for in 2021. At EBJ we don’t always follow trends, but we love to know what you’re wearing!

Spring

Pearls.  Pearls are timeless staples that can be enjoyed year round, but we are starting 2021 strong.  Runways worldwide are already featuring pearl earrings, bracelets, and necklaces as essential parts of one’s wardrobe, rather than a complementary piece. Hair accessories such as headbands, bobby pins, and clips are also being adorned with these gorgeous treasures.

Beach beads.  We don’t want to hide our excitement for beach weather. Colorful beads, both worn alone or layered with other necklaces, have not only gained popularity in the past few months but they are predicted to be a trend lasting well into the summer.

Summer

Beach-inspired jewelry.  Using shells or bright colors in summer jewelry is hardly new. After having to spend the previous summer inside, away from the beach, it is only natural that the upcoming summer trends emphasize our desire to reconnect with the sand, sun, and water.

Charm clusters.  Whether it is a pair of earrings or a statement piece necklace, large clusters of charms are beginning to grow increasingly popular. Mixing and matching colors, sizes, materials, and styles is already in the forecast for the coming months.

Autumn

Long chain necklaces.  Long chain necklaces have already shown up on the 2021 jewelry trend radar but they are expected to peak later on in the year. Handmade jewelry artisans can take advantage of this opportunity to use up thicker, bulkier materials that might be harder to store without any leftover scrap pieces.

Large, long earrings.  Hoops and chandelier earrings in particular are anticipated to dominate this fall. Wearing single earrings is also a slow yet steadily growing trend, so if you want to enhance your look, try wearing a small stud in one ear and a shoulder-length earring in the other.

Winter

French designs.  Keep an eye out specifically for things such as Parisian-inspired twisted cables.  Pearls will be repurposed here, going from being the main feature to a means of amplifying the inherently romantic French style.

Statement earrings.  Last season was all about long and luxurious, but come winter it is time for big and bold pieces. Hoops and chandelier earrings can still satisfy this trend but look for funky geometric designs and eye-catching colors.
