Studio Views

You may have heard that I was moving to Detroit.  The past few months have been a whirlwind, filled with happiness, sadness, excitement - and just filled!  Most of all I am really loving living in a city again.  It's great to have access to museums, music, new restaurants and lots of energy.

Most important to happiness however, is the work space.

Detroit Warehouse Studio

The studio is located in a area of downtown called the Cass Corridor.  It is walkable to a few bars and restaurants, and most notably a killer antique store (that brick building in the middle of the field).  These photos are from my upstairs studio room, about 300 sq feet that I am using as a office and showroom.  It has amazing light and a view of downtown and the MGM casino.

The actual workshop space is downstairs in the warehouse.  This space is shared with my studio mates, Scott and Kyle, I definitely bring a feminine touch to the place.  And it can get a little intense in here, especially when Scott is working on that giant 30 foot sundial sculpture in the middle of the room!

One of the most magic things about Detroit is that it is a big city with a small community. I have found that everyone knows each other, there are networks and spiderwebs connecting everyone.  Some of my favorite things about the city so far are Detroit Institute of Modern Art , MOCAD, Detroit Denim, Rust Belt Market and Drinks x Design

Check out some of the brilliant makers who have become my new friends!

EBJ is moving to Detroit!

I got engaged this past October, and just one week later my fiance Brad moved to Detroit to follow his career.  I've postponed the move as long as I can, but now it's time to take the plunge and join him there. Leaving Central Virginia is bittersweet, but I am excited for a new adventure!  The universe has already told me that everything is going to be okay. Through some shameless email networking I've already found the studio of my dreams. It's a magical warehouse space in downtown Detroit that I'll be sharing with a woodworker, Kyle and a metal sculptor, Scott.  Come for a for a visit! I'll tell you, Detroit is bursting with energy, local pride and cheap real estate.

I have been so lucky to work with some of the most talented and fearless people over the past few years. To all of you who have been a part of this great idea that has become Elaine B Jewelry: Thank you. Special shout outs to Lauren, Matt, Caitlyn and Nikita.  You guys have really helped me build something we can all be proud of.

For the next few weeks things might be a little slower than usual while I settle into my new space. In the meantime, please respond to this email and say hi, I would love to hear from you!  You can also come visit me at ACC Baltimore in the end of February.

I'll post lots of pics when everything is up and running!

Vote Everyday

This morning while eating breakfast I looked at facebook and it really sunk in, how can I help?  What will make a impact?  When the man sticks it to you, what do you do??  Sadly I wont be able to join my sisters in DC tomorrow for the march but I wanted to help.  Then I thought, what would a American do?  And it came to me, throw money at it.

So today EBJ donated $100 to each of these organizations that we feel so passionately about. This money wont change the world on its own, but we wanted it to be a statement to these amazing non-profits that we are thinking about you.

We can vote everyday.

The Jewelry Travel Case Has Finally Arrived!

Over the past few months I have been collaborating with a couple of local artist masterminds to create a simple, conveniently designed travel jewelry case. This past week I finally got my hands on the finished product and I could not be more thrilled!

EBJ and Awl Snap Jewelry Travel Case

The soft, buttery leather folds naturally into place like it's been worked and weathered for years. With two leather straps and three pouches, there are numerous ways to store and secure your favorite pieces!

-
Awl Snap, a handmade leather goods business based in Richmond VA created these soft, supple leather cases for us. Big Secret, also Richmond based, made us the awesome laser engraved metal tags. They are superstars!

My favorite thing about the case is that even when it's filled up with jewelry, it is still compact and flexible, EXACTLY what I look for when packing for an adventure! Available here and on our Etsy page!
