Elaine B Jewelry x Michigan Central Train Station
We are so excited to announce our collaboration with Michigan Central! To celebrate the reopening of the train station, we partnered with Michigan Central to release a limited edition collection available at The Shop and also on our website!
To give a little background, Michigan Central Train Station in Detroit is reopening after decades of being abandoned and years of renovations by Ford. Read the full story here.
With the reopening being such a special moment in Detroit, Michigan Central reached out to us about collaborating on a collection of jewelry that utilized some of the archival stone material that wasn't used in the renovation. With a team of jewelers who love to redesign heirlooms and experiment with unique materials, we were eager to be a part of this project! We loved the idea of highlighting local craftsmanship and handmade goods while reusing salvaged materials to create something new.

A Tribute to Local Craftsmanship & Jewelry
When starting the project, we were given some salvaged materials to start experimenting with. Our material exploration happened in two phases - playing with shape and design variations.
Phase 1 of development - experimenting with shape, size, durability, and overall design using different salvaged materials.
We found our footing in phase two, finalizing the material and the design we liked most. We ended up falling in love with two different granites. One speckled granite and one light pink granite - reclaimed from the countertops in the original bathrooms of the station. Not only were these stones harder and more durable, but also much more interesting with variations of color and texture.
Phase 2 of development - selecting final shape, stone, and design!
From Salvaged Stone to Stunning Jewelry
As you can see from our material exploration process, these granites were carefully hand-cut into gem shapes and set into meticulously hand-fabricated sterling silver settings. The result is a collection that not only celebrates the storied past of Michigan Central Train Station but also transforms it into wearable art. We love that this collection carries a piece of the station’s history, allowing wearers to feel a part of its enduring legacy.
