Elaine B Jewelry x Michigan Central Train Station

We are so excited to announce our collaboration with Michigan Central! To celebrate the reopening of the train station, we partnered with Michigan Central to release a limited edition collection only available at the opening celebrations! (Although, it just might be coming soon here, too! Follow us on social media to be the first to know.)

To give a little background, Michigan Central Train Station in Detroit is reopening after decades of being abandoned and years of renovations by Ford. Read the full story here.

With the reopening being such a special moment in Detroit, Michigan Central reached out to us about collaborating on a collection of jewelry that utilized some of the archival stone material that wasn't used in the renovation. With a team of jewelers who love to redesign heirlooms and experiment with unique materials, we were eager to be a part of this project! We loved the idea of highlighting local craftsmanship and handmade goods while reusing salvaged materials to create something new.

A Tribute to Local Craftsmanship & Jewelry

When starting the project, we were given some salvaged materials to start experimenting with. Our material exploration happened in two phases - playing with shape and design variations.

Phase 1 of development - experimenting with shape, size, durability, and overall design using different salvaged materials.

We found our footing in phase two, finalizing the material and the design we liked most. We ended up falling in love with two different granites. One speckled granite and one light pink granite - reclaimed from the countertops in the original bathrooms of the station. Not only were these stones harder and more durable, but also much more interesting with variations of color and texture.

Phase 2 of development - selecting final shape, stone, and design!

From Salvaged Stone to Stunning Jewelry

As you can see from our material exploration process, these granites were carefully hand-cut into gem shapes and set into meticulously hand-fabricated sterling silver settings. The result is a collection that not only celebrates the storied past of Michigan Central Train Station but also transforms it into wearable art. We love that this collection carries a piece of the station’s history, allowing wearers to feel a part of its enduring legacy.

Celebrate the Opening of Michigan Central!

The Michigan Central Collection is available in both sterling silver and oxidized sterling silver exclusively at the Michigan Central Train Station opening celebration events open to the public from now until June 16th. After June 16, open house options will still be available to the public on weekends. They'll be limited to the first floor on Fridays and Saturdays during the month of August. You can read more info here.

We hope each wearer of these pieces can feel a part of this story, and take a piece of the memorable train station with them. If you see our jewelry at the opening celebrations, be sure to tag us on social media!
