Essential Tips for Summer Jewelry Care

Essential Tips for Summer Jewelry Care

Essential Tips for Summer Jewelry Wearing

Summer is the season of sun-kissed skin, vibrant colors, and carefree adventures. It's also the perfect time to showcase your favorite jewelry pieces and add a touch of sparkle to your summer style. However, with the sun, sweat, and outdoor activities, it's important to take extra care of your precious accessories. To help you keep your jewelry shining bright all summer long, we've compiled some essential tips for summer jewelry care.

1. Avoid Direct Sunlight

Just like our skin, jewelry can be sensitive to prolonged exposure to sunlight. Sunlight can fade some gemstones, especially opals,  and even affect the color and luster of precious metals. When heading out on a sunny day, consider wearing a wide-brimmed hat or using a parasol to shield yourself and your jewelry from direct sunlight.

2. Keep Jewelry Away from Water

While it's tempting to wear your favorite pieces while swimming or taking a dip in the pool, it's best to remove them beforehand. Chlorine, saltwater, and even regular tap water can cause damage to your jewelry overtime, especially if it contains delicate gemstones or pearls. The chemicals in pool water can also corrode metals if exposed often. In addition, cool pools or chilly ocean water might cause your favorite rings to feel looser than usual - you don’t want to accidentally have a ring slip off your finger! To be extra cautious, remember to store your jewelry in a safe and dry place while enjoying fun water activities this summer!

3. Minimize Contact with Lotions and Sunscreens

Sunscreen and lotions are essential for protecting your skin, but they can leave a residue on your jewelry, making it appear dull and lackluster. Say it isn’t so! To prevent this, apply sunscreen or lotion before putting on your jewelry and ensure it is fully absorbed before wearing your favorite pieces. Afterward, gently clean your jewelry with your EBJ polishing cloth  to remove any product residue. Who says we can’t have protected skin and sparkling jewelry this summer?

4. Store Jewelry Properly

When you're not wearing your jewelry, proper storage is key to preserving its shine and preventing damage. Store your jewelry in a soft pouch or lined jewelry box to prevent scratches and tangling. Did you know each Elaine B Jewelry piece comes with a complimentary polishing cloth and linen pouch? You could also consider investing in a jewelry organizer with compartments to keep your pieces organized and easily accessible. Since it’s the summertime, a travel size organizer is a great option! This will help to keep your jewelry away from any humid environments you might encounter on vacation that might speed up the tarnishing of your jewelry!

5. Clean Regularly

Regular cleaning is essential to maintain the brilliance of your jewelry. However, different materials require specific cleaning methods. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials that may damage gemstones or metals. Instead, use a gentle jewelry cleaner recommended for the specific type of jewelry you have. We sell one in store at EBJ, stop by and see us! We can also professionally clean your jewelry while you’re shopping or getting Forever Linked. Just let us know!

Alternatively, you can create a homemade cleaning solution using mild dish soap and warm water. Soak your jewelry briefly, gently scrub with a soft brush, and rinse thoroughly. Remember to dry your jewelry completely before storing it. You can also use a polishing cloth to really sparkle it up!

6. Consider a Travel Ring

When planning a vacation, it's essential to consider the safety and security of your engagement ring. While your engagement ring holds immense sentimental value, it may not be the most practical choice to wear during your travels. Opting for a travel ring, specifically designed for adventures and exploration, is a smart decision. A travel ring offers peace of mind, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the experiences without worrying about losing or damaging your precious engagement ring. It can be a versatile and stylish alternative, designed with durable materials and a more discreet profile. We love to recommend our Gemma Rings! With a travel ring, you can still enjoy the symbolic significance of wearing a ring while embracing the freedom and flexibility that comes with your vacation. It's a practical and pragmatic choice that ensures you can fully enjoy your journey without any unnecessary anxiety or concern.
